When I think about why HBD has been so successful, I think it’s because it’s not just a one-off talk about health, but rather it’s ongoing, consistent and progressive. That’s where our people get sustained value and effective change.
I honestly didn’t think you would be able to engage this group. But I’ve had multiple people thank me, unsolicited, and tell me this is the best safety training they’ve ever had.
Our group had very high levels of stress. We went from being one of the least engaged groups in the company to one of the most engaged. HBD are experts in their field who are motivated to see us succeed. We don’t see them as a provider; we see them as part of our team.

We found the Health by Design team to be incredibly effective at engaging a difficult workforce, the biggest challenge with any of these programmes is getting people involved. The HBD guys were excellent in this space, the quality of the staff made the difference, interactions with personnel at the depots proved the value HBD were adding to the business. The level of data flow was incredibly useful with the senior managers, the quality of the data helped us to demonstrate the value that the programme was adding.
